OpenCircle Welcomes Historic Funding for NAIT’s Advanced Skills Centre

This is a monumental day for Alberta’s skilled trades. Following the Alberta government’s announcement of Budget 2026, OpenCircle is thrilled to see a decisive, $384-million investment directed toward NAIT’s new Advanced Skills Centre (ASC).

As an organization dedicated to the growth and prosperity of the construction industry, and the people who power it, OpenCircle recognizes that this isn’t just an infrastructure project—it is an investment in the future of our Members and the province we are all building together.

Expanding Opportunities for 5,500 More Apprentices

The shortage of skilled labor is a challenge we discuss daily. By creating space for 5,500 additional apprentices annually, this investment directly addresses the workforce needs of the construction, transportation, and energy sectors.

The new 625,000-square-foot facility will provide the kind of hands-on, job-site-inspired training that ensures the next generation of trades professionals is job-ready from day one.

A Shared Vision for Alberta’s Workforce

OpenCircle has always championed a career in the trades as a path to a rewarding, high-impact life. We are encouraged to see the provincial government and NAIT align on this vision.

“Skilled trades offer Albertans the chance to build a good life, create something lasting and help shape the future of this province. As Alberta grows, so does the demand for skilled workers. This investment will help train the next generation of trades professionals our economy needs to keep building and growing.”

Looking Ahead

With work beginning this spring and the facility set to open in 2030, the horizon for Alberta’s construction industry looks brighter than ever. We look forward to seeing how these 29 diverse programs will foster innovation and excellence on our future job sites.

At OpenCircle, we remain committed to advocating for the tools, training, and benefits that keep our workforce strong. Today’s news is a massive win for every Albertan who picks up a tool to build a better future.
